Looking back to when Mark was a child in Cleveland, Ohio, it was clear to his parents that he was interested in the news at a young age. When they got cable TV in the 1980s, he used to sit and watch CNN and he was fixated on everything from how the news was gathered to how it was presented.

For him, Mark will always recall a special boy when he worked in Cleveland. Dylan was twelve-years-old and had periodic cancer. He was a giant wrestling fan and he wanted to meet John Cena. Following a few phone calls, we made it happen at a local hospital. Dylan was so delighted and it was a tremendous honor to be part of that memory with his family before he died.

Over the years, Mark has worked as an anchor and reporter in several places. He was an intern at WKYC in Cleveland and The TODAY Show in New York. But his first “paying” career was at WICU in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1997 where he served as a producer and reporter. In 1998, he transferred to West Virginia where he worked at WTOV for almost five years. In 2003, Mark relocated to Rhode Island and joined the team at WPRI as a reporter and morning anchor.

But in 2009, an unexpected chance presented itself and he drove home to Cleveland where he was offered a job at WJW, the station they watched as a family when he was growing up. While there, he got to report on so many stories in his community over those years and it was an incredible experience with some of the best people in the business.

In 2014, Mark was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and after surgery and treatment at the Cleveland Clinic, he suddenly felt like he needed a change. He needed something new both professionally and personally. It was the most difficult decision because of his job, his friends, and his family back home, but it was also the easiest decision because of the chance to work at Channel 3 Eyewitness News.
