Donovan works as a Weekday meteorologist and reporter at WGN9 in Chicago, Illinois. She came to WGN-TV in November 2021 and is excited to be part of the WGN-TV family. Prior to joining WGN, Alyssa worked at WRTV in Indianapolis, where she served as a meteorologist and reporter since 2018. During her time at WRTV, she worked almost every shift in the newsroom and is known as our utility player. Alyssa’s ability to quickly adapt to different positions has allowed her to help other stations in the Scripps family. While in Indy she traveled to sister stations throughout the Midwest to fill in as both a reporter and meteorologist.
Before WRTV, Alyssa served as a field reporter at ‘sister station’ 41 Action News in Kansas City, Missouri, reporting severe weather and other wide-ranging stories. As a weather forecaster at KXLY, the ABC affiliate in Spokane, Washington, she reported everything from flooding to extreme wildfires and recorded snowfalls. Donovan began her journalism career at the ABC/NBC duopoly in Peoria, Illinois as a weather forecaster and reporter. In her brief time there she reported historic flooding and the devastating November 2013 tornadoes. In her free time, Alyssa loves outdoor activities like kayaking and hiking and is working on visiting all of the national parks. A volunteer with the American Heart Association and Red Cross, she is also getting involved in lung cancer research locally.
