Before WKRG, John worked in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Norfolk, Virginia; and along the way even spent 12 months in Consequences or Truth, New Mexico at a Spanish-Country-Gospel-News radio station. When you’re the lone station for a hundred miles in any direction, you’ve got to be versatile.
John earned meteorology training from Mississippi State University and from the U.S. Air Force. He is part of the National Weather Association (NWA) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and has acquired the Seal of Approval from both organizations. John has been recognized with numerous broadcast and civic recognition— including twice being voted “Best Weather Anchor in Alabama” by the Associated Press.
Over the years, John has visited tens of thousands of schoolkids, from kindergarten to college, presenting the “why” of weather in a very private and personable way. John and his wife have been married for over 35 years and have two children.
