Grant relocated to Mobile, Alabama from Nashville, Tennessee in the fall of 2018 to pursue meteorology at the University of South Alabama (USA). Taking a course instructed by John Nodar, a News 5 First Alert Storm Team Morning Meteorologist solidified his interest in broadcasting and permitted him to take his talents and skills to the next level. Grant is glad to be working beside his mentor and professor.
He analyzed at the University of South Alabama with Dr. Sytske Kimball on the effects of near-surface temperature inversions on agricultural locations along the Gulf Coast. Grant also presented at the AMS (American Meteorological Society) conference in January 2022 and at the undergraduate research symposium in the USA. He has worked with USA’s Coastal Weather Research Center to alert businesses including Alabama Power to take safeguards during severe weather.
Throughout his term at the University of South Alabama, he was also heavily involved in the USA Jaguar Marching Band where he served as drum major for his senior and junior seasons. Grant was also appointed by the student body as the 2021 Homecoming King.
He was once an intern with the News 5 First Alert Storm Team in the summer of 2021 and would thereafter join the team in December of 2021. He has a passion for hazardous and extreme weather and is ready to use his experience and knowledge to alert and protect the Gulf Coast. Outside of work, Grant enjoys spending time with close friends and family, watching college sports and shows, and playing guitar.
