She got her big break right out of university when she was employed as a morning reporter to report for WAKA in Montgomery, Alabama. From there she accepted a job at WLFL in Raleigh, North Carolina. She also spent a few years at WHBQ in Memphis where she served as an investigative reporter.
Heather transferred to the First Coast from Little Rock, Arkansas, where she spent six years serving as an evening anchor at KATV. She is the recipient of numerous regional Murrow awards, National Edward R. Murrow Award, and Eight Emmys. Her investigative documentary “West Memphis Three: Justice Served?” earned an Emmy, Hermes Platinum award, Edward R. Murrow award, and a Telly. She received a First Place Associated Press honor for Best Investigative Reporting for shining the spotlight on cell phone abuse occurring at taxpayers’ expense in an Arkansas school district. Heather is also the beneficiary of a National MADD Award for exposing a habitual drunk driver.
She was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, and attended North Carolina State University. As a working mother, Heather juggles a lot. She homeschools her two kids, leads a Bible study, and is devoted to serving her community. Heather is a volunteer mentor with Take Stock in Children and acts on the board of Hugs Across the County, a grassroots organization that supports children in need in St. Johns County.
