Jeannie Blaylock Career and Wikipedia

Blaylock works on First Coast News at WTLV/WJXX in Jacksonville, Florida, United States alongside Shannon Ogden, as a weekday evening news anchor and reporter at 5 and 6 p.m.  She anchors alongside Shannon Ogden. During her term at First Coast News, she has attained much recognition for her effort, including 26 Emmys, several national Edward R. Murrow awards, multiple Associated Press awards, and a Peabody.

Jeannie is the first person in Jacksonville to earn the prestigious Peabody, which acknowledges her pioneering work in the creation of Buddy Check 12, which has saved the lives of thousands of First Coast ladies and several men, as well. Since 2002, Buddy Check 12 has inspired self-exams and mammograms. A mammogram can pick up a pre-cancer as tiny as a grain of sand, yet nearly half of all ladies don’t get regular mammograms. Jeannie wanted to change that, so she cooperated with Baptist Health and MD Anderson and raised over a million dollars to purchase the “Buddy Bus,” a mobile mammography unit. She has motivated dozens of cities across the United States to copy Buddy Check 12 and encourage women to catch breast cancer early.

Her journalism career has taken her to several other countries. Jeannie’s reports from Haiti motivated donations for earthquake victims, resulting in over a hundred amputees receiving new prosthetic legs. For the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, she anchored live from the Beaches of Normandy. School districts have requested Jeannie to show the First Coast News documentary on D-Day to thousands of learners, helping to educate them about the day and its history.

Jeannie believes in working to assist the community. In 2014, her “Apple Project” supported to build a free dental clinic on Timuquana Road. She was also the first reporter on the First Coast News family to concentrate on K9s For Warriors, which trains service dogs to help veterans manage their PTSD. As Jeannie has shown, the company has a 99% success rate at preventing suicides.
