While working at 13WMAZ, Matt also freelanced at CNN as a weather producer where he was able to cover climate, weather, and science-related stories to both international and domestic audiences around the world. Matt covered typhoons like tsunamis, plane crashes, Haiyan, earthquakes, floods, droughts, and severe weather while at CNN.
Matt is a Georgia native and graduated from the University of Georgia. He has ever had a love for weather since the age of three and has consistently enjoyed weather forecasting and studying tropical cyclones. Matt has earned several awards in forecasting excellence and made it into the final four of a weather forecasting contest that pairs up graduate students, professors, and undergraduates all over the country.

He is a busy member of the American Meteorological Society and relishes reaching out to society via events and school activities to increase weather awareness.
On one day off, Matt enjoys performing and writing music and plays a variety of instruments including the guitar, piano, and trumpet. His favorite season is fall because he loves cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and of course SEC College Football.
