She anchors Good Morning Jacksonville 4:30-6:00 am & First Coast News at Noon from 12:00-1:00 pm. Katie also serves as traffic Anchor for Good Morning Jacksonville 5:00-7:00 am. When Katie was in elementary school, her dad thought she would become a lawyer, her mom thought she would be a writer. As she grew up, she never lost the desire to investigate, debate, and write stories- so she became a journalist.

She arrived at the First Coast News team in 2012 as a morning reporter on Good Morning Jacksonville and after a year, she took over as the Morning Traffic Anchor and Noon News Anchor. In 2019, she became Morning Anchor. In addition to these positions, she also reports with an emphasis on covering cold cases.

In her time in Jacksonville, Katie has reported on stories in nearly every corner of the First Coast. In May 2017, she initiated her series “Unsolved”, which profiles local cold cases. The series earned a regional Emmy award in 2019. In 2020, the series literally lead to the closure of a missing persons case in Jacksonville Beach. Katie also created the social media platform series “Driving Me Crazy” which takes a sarcastic look at driving violations and has become a recognized series around the First Coast. It earned a local Emmy nomination in 2020.

Katie is proud to have reported and anchored during several major events in Jacksonville. She has reported on Hurricanes Matthew, Dorian, Irma, and Hermine. Additionally, she reported on the abduction of Cherish Perrywinkle, the murder trial of Michael Dunn, the birth of the area’s first-ever conjoined twins, and the Jacksonville Landing mass shooting. Though much of her reporting has a deep focus, she has earned two regional Emmys for her light features “Bye Garbage” and “Flight School”.

Katie is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. While in college, she got her feet wet in journalism via an internship at WKRC-TV in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was honored with the Fredric R. Ziv Award by the University of Cincinnati’s Electronic Media Department, which gave her the chance to move to New York City for a summer internship with CBS’s “Guiding Light.”

Upon graduation, Katie commenced her journalism profession as a  reporter/fill-in anchor at WHIZ-TV, the NBC affiliate in Zanesville, OH, where her story, “An Eye in the Sky”, obtained an Ohio AP Award. From there, she worked in New Bern, North Carolina at WCTI, and covered multiple hurricanes, including the devastating Hurricane Irene.

Katie got married in 2019 and they welcomed their first son together in 2020.  They are also parents to their two rescue dogs: Arnold & Alvin! Katie is also a strong advocate for recovery animals. She promises to work every day to give you the news that is essential to your community.
