Katie also created the social media platform series “Driving Me Crazy,” which takes a sarcastic look at driving violations and has become a recognized series around the First Coast. It earned a local Emmy nomination in 2020.
Katie is proud to have reported and anchored during several major events in Jacksonville. She has reported on Hurricanes Matthew, Dorian, Irma, and Hermine. Additionally, she reported on the abduction of Cherish Perrywinkle, the murder trial of Michael Dunn, the birth of the area’s first-ever conjoined twins, and the Jacksonville Landing mass shooting. Though much of her reporting has a deep focus, she has earned two regional Emmys for her light features “Bye Garbage” and “Flight School”.
Katie is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. While in college, she got her feet wet in journalism via an internship at WKRC-TV in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was honored with the Fredric R. Ziv Award by the University of Cincinnati’s Electronic Media Department, which gave her the chance to move to New York City for a summer internship with CBS’s “Guiding Light.”
After graduating, Katie started her journalism career at WHIZ-TV in Zanesville, Ohio, where her story “An Eye in the Sky” won an Ohio AP Award. She later worked at WCTI in New Bern, North Carolina, covering hurricanes, including Hurricane Irene. Beyond journalism, Katie advocates for recovery animals and is dedicated to delivering important news to her community.
