Rodriguez is a video store clerk at Viper Video in Tampa’s Riverside Heights neighborhood. Located at 706 W. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., it deals with movies of all genres but specializes in classic fantasy, horror, and science fiction.

Shelby McIntyre, Joseph’s employer, who launched the store in November 2021, informed Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that everyone at the shop loves Joseph and is rooting for him. After the roughly 90-day competition, there’s also a job still waiting for the ambitious filmmaker.

In his intro video, Rodriguez also performs in local bands and has been on videos for outfits like post-rock band Sleeping Pills, and is also seen jogging on the beach. He realized he was going on the show by finding a key as he unpacked a box of tapes at Viper Video.

Participants arrived from various states and ranged in age from 21 to 52.
