Sealls works at NBC15, WPMI-TV in Mobile as a Chief Meteorologist. He has been a chief meteorologist in Mobile for more than 23 years. Alan not only has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in meteorology from Cornell University and from Florida State University, but he also holds professional certifications from the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA). He is a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society (AMS)- a distinction held by a small fraction of meteorologists.
Before coming to Mobile in 1999, Alan served as a meteorologist at the NBC TV station in Chicago. Before that, he worked for 5 years at the Chicago superstation WGN-TV. While there, he served as a meteorology professor at Columbia College in Chicago. From 1988 to 1992, Alan served as a meteorologist at WTMJ-TV & Radio, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His profession began in Albany, Georgia, at WALB-TV.
Alan also teaches weather broadcasting at the University of South Alabama, each spring. He also has authored and produced four dozen weather videos used by educators in multiple countries. His weather photos and work have been used in research and in college textbooks.
With twenty-five Emmy nominations, Alan has earned fourteen Emmy awards. He earned the best weathercaster in the State three times, from the Alabama Broadcaster’s Association and “Best Weather Anchor” from the Alabama Associated Press Broadcasters Association 4 times. Alan also earned a best-in-state honor for his retrospective on Hurricane Ivan. The AMS also rewarded Alan with an honor for merit in science reporting for a three-part series he produced on climate change.
In 2017, Reddit users named him “Best Weatherman Ever”, during Hurricane Irma, after one of his weather segments went viral on social platforms. Lagniappe newspaper readers have named Alan as Best Meteorologist in Mobile, seven years in a row. In 2019, Alan earned the AMS Award for Broadcast Meteorology for a profession of science education to the public and to his peers. He often is a presenter and panelist for national conventions, as well as a requested lecturer on college campuses. Alan has also earned several community service honors in the last few years. He has been acknowledged as a history-maker in meteorology.
Every year, Alan reaches thousands of children in dozens of school visits, in-person and effectively, showcasing science, and promoting excellence. Alan served as the 2018 President of the National Weather Association. He also has acted as both a Councilor and a Board Chair for both the NWA and the AMS. He is part of the Atmospheric Sciences Advisory Council and Cornell University Earth. Alan’s interests include golf and photography.
