Lagoe works for KARE-TV (NBC) in Minneapolis, as an Investigative Reporter. He joined the KARE 11 team to help launch the investigative team in June 2014. His passion is stories that make his community a little bit better place to live.

While at KARE, A.J.’s reporting has exposed loopholes in the law allowing sex offenders to drive school buses, led to criminal convictions for embezzling taxpayer money, launched multiple Attorney General and Inspector General investigations, sparked numerous Congressional and state legislative hearings, prompted new federal and state laws.

Lagoe’s reporting on Veteran problems resulted in 25,000 Veterans throughout the country being given care and benefits for traumatic brain injuries previously denied by the VA and directed Congress to draft new laws to revamp the VA’s organ transplant and benefits claims programs.

In 2018, A.J. and the KARE 11 investigative team were presented with the national Fourth Estate Award for comprehensive investigations of Veterans’ issues. In 2020, A.J. and the investigative team earned a 2nd Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for a series of investigations that directed the refund of over half a billion dollars to veterans nationwide and uncovered racial inequities in the VA organ transplant program.

A.J.’s investigation Double Billing the Badge uncovered how almost every law enforcement agency in Minnesota had been ripped off for years on their acquisition of squad cars in a sophisticated double billing scheme that led to a criminal swindling conviction and over a million dollars being refunded. That reporting enabled A.J. to earn his first Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award – often referred to as the Pulitzer Prize for broadcasters.

A.J. commenced his journalism profession as a radio reporter for WSYR in Syracuse, N.Y. From there he jumped to TV at WSTM also in Syracuse and afterward moved to WRIC in Richmond, Virginia. He arrived at KARE after more than 10 years working in Virginia.
