At the beginning of his career, Carl was a freelancer for a while until he got a chance to be in the ITN graduate training scheme. After the training session, he got an opportunity to work as a news reporter for ITN.
His most memorable moment in reporting was his first, which was a report on an accident that occurred in Belfast. In 2003, he joined the US troops, and he liked the experience as they went to Iraq when the invasion took place.
In January 2006, Carl joined Channel 4 News initially as a producer. He was later promoted to being the Midlands correspondent for the station. Later, he served Channel 4 News as a reporter who based his reports on defense and Irish affairs.
Dinnen joined ITV News in 2012, and he has been serving to date as a political correspondent.
