Rael serves at KOCO 5 News at 4 p.m. along with co-anchor Abigail Ogle and chief meteorologist Damon Lane. He also reports for the KOCO 5 News 10 p.m. newscast. Zach came to the KOCO 5 news family in 2016 as a multimedia journalist from a news station in El Paso, Texas.
As part of KOCO’s anchor team, he helped Oklahomans to stay informed during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also seen his fair share of Oklahoma weather, from tornadoes and the damage they leave behind – to the deep freezes and snow storms that have led to power outages and blackouts.
The most powerful story Rael has ever reported is a personal one. In 2020, Rael toured California to donate stem cells for his cousin with a rare form of blood cancer. He was able to record his experience and share with audiences the donation process.
He is also recognized for reporting the biggest stories including the window washers stuck on top of the Devon where he was the 1st anchor on the ground and was part of live coverage as they were safely rescued.
Outside of work, he loves consuming time outdoors with his fiancee, friends, and two rescue dogs, Rocko and Murphy. He also loves Skiing and you can find him hitting the slopes at any opportunity he gets during the winter months. Zach also loves taking his dogs to the dog park and playing golf. He is also a moviegoer and avid concert who has also been a tennis instructor, coaching underserved children.
