Lee is popularly known for her controversial role in the John Cameron Mitchell movie Shortbus. In the mid-80s, she was the lead singer for Bob’s Your Uncle, a Vancouver alternative rock band. Lee frequently incorporated performance art techniques into the band’s melodic rock. When that band broke up, Lee chased a solo music career, releasing multiple solo albums and performing as an actor in theatre, television projects, and film. She was the lead vocalist for the band Slan. Neko Case enclosed Lee’s song “Knock Loud” on her 2001 EP Canadian Amp. Her performance gained her 2007 Best Supporting Actress award from the International Cinephile Society, honoring the finest in American and international cinema.
Year of the Carnivore is Lee’s feature movie presentation as writer-director. She co-established the Genie-nominated score and concept album, Original Music From and Inspired by the Movie Year of the Carnivore, with Buck 65 and Adam Litovitz.
