Seán Batty Biography

Seán Batty is Scotland TV Weatherman and a media personality from Paisley, Scotland, currently working as a meteorologist and presenter of Sean’s Scotland & Don’t Waste Scotland for STV Group plc. He has been part of the STV Group family since August 2007. Previously, Sean worked as a regional broadcaster for BBC.

Batty went to and graduated from South Primary in Paisley, Carron Primary in Falkirk, and Castlehead High, back in Paisley. At 18 he left Scotland to study meteorology at Reading University.

Batty works as a meteorologist and presenter of Sean’s Scotland & Don’t Waste Scotland for STV Group plc. He began working for STV as the sole weather presenter in August 2007, after the channel had a gap of several years without a presenter. At STV Seán produce and present 21 broadcasts a day. He has also relaunched the weather graphics three times and has been part of the graphic development and testing process before going live.

His first job in meteorology was with the Met Office, working as a weather observer at the Middle Wallop army air base in Hampshire. Then he relocated to ITV Weather working behind the scenes sending bulletins and preparing for the ITV regional broadcasters.

After a year with ITV, Seán became a broadcast assistant at the BBC, located at the television center in London. During his time at the BBC, he became a regional broadcaster and acted as cover for the regions and nations. In his 3 years at the BBC, Seán presented on television for most of the English regions, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Batty is also an ambassador for our TV charity, The STV Children’s Appeal, and has raised money by cycling, walking, running, and hiking his way around the country since it started in 2011. He began presenting the Scottish Children’s Lottery in 2017, with draws being held on Mondays and Thursdays.

In 2019 Seán was given his own TV show, ‘Sean’s Scotland’, where he took viewers on a journey around our beautiful country over the course of 7 weeks. The program covered the weather, environment, wildlife, and people. Sean’s Scotland was STV’s highest rating local program for 3 years.

On the back of the success of Sean’s Scotland, he presents Sean’s Very Scottish Hogmanay! They rang 2020 in with the highest Hogmanay viewing figures for 13 years.

He is now learning to fly at Glasgow Airport and currently training for his PPL (Private Pilots License) and might one day be able to take you to the clouds…
