In 1996, Robin Rhodes resigned from his post, and Michelle was appointed to his post as the new assistant district attorney by Mike Harson, the fifteenth justice district attorney.

She used to work in a private firm where she dealt with managing insurance defense cases. Michele later took a break from her job to help out her children with homeschooling. She later returned to the Louisiana Defender’s office.

In 2020, she got elected to be Lafayette City Court Judge, Division A, for a six-year term. She won against Francie Bouillion when she ran as a Republican. In 2021, she had to take a leave after a video that went viral of her family members using racist language in their home. She went off, stating that she was on sedatives and that she could not recall anything at that time. She was replaced by Vanessa Harris from December 17, 2021, to February 28, 2022.
