Materre is recognized as an Emmy award-winning journalist and anchor of the WGN Evening News at Five and Six and the WGN News at Nine and Ten. Before being appointed anchor of the WGN News at Nine in 2009, she served as a co-anchor of WGN Midday News from January 2003 to October 2009.

Micah came to Chicago’s WGN-TV in January 1998 as a WGN medical reporter and Morning News co-anchor. She has anchored all of the newscasts at WGN, as well as covering special assignment stories and entertainment news, including the historic inauguration of America’s first black President. In addition, Micah co-produces and reports the “Chicago’s Very Own” bi-weekly segment for WGN News, and she is the host of WGN’s public affairs program, “People to People”.

She is also one of Chicago’s very own, as she was born here and was raised in the city. Previously, Micah worked for eight years at WJBK-TV in Detroit, where she was a main anchor and general assignment reporter. While at WJBK, Micah’s work garnered multiple awards and accolades, including an award and an Emmy from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. Before moving to the Motor City, Micah cut her teeth in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, serving as a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor. She commenced her profession in broadcasting in 1983 at NPR affiliate, WBEZ radio in Chicago,  reporting and producing for four years. In addition, she instructed radio production at Columbia College. Micah has over 3 decades of experience as a journalist and broadcaster.

In 2014, Micah earned a Chicago/Midwest Emmy and was also recognized as a diversity trailblazer by Barnes and Thornburg LLP. She has been featured in several national and local publications over the years, including the New York Times Magazine, Today’s Chicago Woman, Who’s Who in Black Chicago, Michigan Avenue Magazine, Glamour, Ebony, Good Housekeeping, and RedEye.

Micah also operates as a mistress of ceremonies, commentator,  and honorary chairperson to several community and civic organizations across Chicagoland. She is on the Board of Directors for the Chicago Children’s Choir and operates on Tutoring Chicago’s Advisory Board. Micah is also a part of the civic organization, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Links, Incorporated, Inc., and the National Association of Black Journalists.
