Early Life and Ethnicity
DuBois was born and raised on Long Island, New York, the son of refugees to the U.S. from Dominica, an island nation in the Caribbean. His parents are Ramona Ursula DuBois and Maurice DuBois Sr. Unfortunately, Maurice’s mom passed away on May 2, 2021, after battling illness. His mom was born on March 29, 1929, and took on a variety of jobs over the years: teacher’s aide, retail sales, and IRS clerk before retiring in 1999. Maurice is not the only son in his family, as he has a brother.

He graduated from Port Jefferson High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. During his time in college, he interned at the Public Affairs Office of the Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island in 1984 and 1985, where he wrote for the employee newspaper, the Brookhaven Bulletin.

He had brought more than three decades of experience to the newscast, and for the last 14 years, he was co-anchor of CBS New York’s (WCBS) 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts. He joined CBS in 2004.
DuBois has served as a reporter for CBS News, covering a wide range of topics such as mental health, child violence, and breast cancer, while also reporting on major breaking news events like 9/11 and the papal transition.
