Quinn works on weekdays as the chief weathercaster of CBS2 News at 5, 6, and 11 p.m. He is also the national weather anchor for “CBS Saturday Morning.” Lonnie joined WCBS-TV in 2007 after working for five years at WTVJ in Miami, Florida. While at Miami, not only was he promoted to full-time weather anchor, but also allowed to develop his own, unique style.
By 2005, Quinn became a renowned on-air personality in Miami, collaborating with Max Mayfield at the National Hurricane Center and participating in data collection on Category 5 hurricane “Isabel” during the record-breaking hurricane season.
Lonnie’s television career began as an actor on ABC’s All My Children. That encounter allowed him to develop a comfort in front of the camera, which assisted him in performing exceptionally in local and national broadcasting. After changing careers from acting to broadcasting, his first newsroom job was at WVIR in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he was employed as a cameraman. Still, three months into the job, an opportunity to report in front of the camera solidified his new career path. Soon, his tasks included full-time anchoring and reporting the weekend weathercasts.
While in Charlottesville, Quinn reported stories about the Thomas Jefferson/Sally Hemings controversy and the popular baby switch at the University of Virginia hospital. He also covered Emily Couric’s rising political career before her unfortunate death in October 2001.
