Sabol serves as weekend news and sports anchor and reporter at WJW-TV FOX 8 News in Cleveland, Ohio. His passion for sports and TV career commenced in his hometown of Ohio. After graduating, John interned at WJW Fox 8 Sports. If his name sounds familiar, it’s because he is the younger brother of Scott Sabol, Fox 8 morning meteorologist.
John’s love of Cleveland sports started as a kid when his dad and brother took him to countless Cavaliers games at the Richfield Coliseum and to Indians and Browns games at the old Municipal Stadium where John watched the Cavs and his childhood idol Mark Price. His two most unforgettable Cleveland sports memories are attending Game 7 of the 2016 World Series and the 2016 Cavs championship.
Prior to his profession coming back to Cleveland, John served at WOWK-TV 13 News in Charleston, WV, and WVNS-TV 59 News in Beckley, WV. In 2013, John received the West Virginia Broadcasters Association “Best Sportscast” award. Most recently, John served the unique positions as both sports anchor and news on WFTS-TV in Tampa, FL for nearly 7 years. In addition, he worked as the station’s lead sports anchor/reporter and host of numerous TV sports specials.
John got the taste of championship sporting events covering the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship, countless other bowl games, the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final, and other sporting events in the Bay area. He has interviewed some of the sport’s biggest titles including Tiger Woods, Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, and Derek Jeter, but the most favorite and unforgettable interview he did was with Julia Ruth Stevens, Babe Ruth’s daughter, on the 100th anniversary of the first spring training game in St. Petersburg, FL in 2014.
