His passion for music was so strong he quit the business after three years and shifted to Nashville, TN. During his time in Nashville, TN, Greg entertained for three years at Opryland USA, and that is when Ed McMahon called giving him a spot on the legendary show, “Star Search”. Greg was on that broadcast for nine weeks and was named “Male Vocalist of the Year”. His doors opened after that with a large agency deal with an immediate live tour and Buddy Lee Attractions.
He also hosted a pair of television pilots as he exercised another facet of his talents and quickly realized his love for this new genre of entertainment. Greg began honing his television skills by hosting and producing shows for Beach TV and Time Warner Cable Television locally. It was bare 11 years ago that Fox TV engaged Greg to initiate a new idea for the station, where he would host a weekly little nighttime TV show.
Striking a hot deal in 2000 meant a major move to Myrtle Beach where Greg commenced starring at The Alabama Theatre where after 19 seasons Greg still performs live 6 nights a week performing several instruments and singing as well as holding down the emcee duties.
Above the course of his esteemed job, Greg has entertained at the Vatican in Rome, Italy for three years. He also carried out countless times as a solo artist on the Grand Ole Opry. This year marks his 40th year in show business and his 19th season here, where he has been acknowledged to be titled as “Alabama Theatre’s Good Will Ambassador”.
Officials of Myrtle Beach’s Alabama Theatre said Greg Rowles’ last performance at the theatre is set for Jan. 1, 2022. For over 14 years Greg has served in Christian ministry as a music pastor and is now consulting with churches throughout the country forming praise services that need production. At any given time you can catch Greg performing guitar at one of our fine hospitals to friends and strangers alike trying to spread some cheer and love of Christ or at the elementary schools where his children grew up. God first, family next, and everything else after that is just icing on the cake.
