Kirkwood rejoined the BBC’s Elstree Studios training department in 1993 as a freelance presenter and hosted the bi-monthly programme Talking Issues for HTV West. In 1996, she joined The Weather Channel’s UK operation, and after its closure, she trained at the Met Office with the BBC.
