Katz works at WVUE FOX 8 News in New Orleans as a weekly Chief Meteorologist. He has been lucky enough to serve the viewers in his home state for his entire two-plus decades on the air. Bruce’s profession began when he interned during his senior year at LSU at WVLA-TV in Baton Rouge. Still in school, he was employed to fill in for the 6 and 10 weathercasts at the ripe young age of 22. After graduating in 1988, Bruce shifted to Lafayette as the weekend Meteorologist for KATC-TV. A year later, he was employed as the chief at KLAX-TV in Alexandria where he served as the chief there for 18 months until WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge came calling.
At WBRZ, Bruce served as a morning and noon weather anchor from 1990 until 1996. It was in ’96 that he returned home to New Orleans where he worked for the next 17 years as a Chief Meteorologist. In 2013, Bruce arrived at WVUE-TV Fox 8 and hit the air on January 1st where he handled the 12 pm and 4 pm weathercasts. During Bruce’s job in New Orleans, he was honored with 14 first-place awards from The Press Club Of New Orleans and The Associated Press. These include Best Severe Weather Coverage and Best Weathercast.
Bruce was born and raised in New Orleanian at Ochsner Hospital. He enrolled in grammar and lower school at Sam Barthe in Metairie until Ecole Classique bought the school. He graduated from Ecole in 1982 and then attended LSU where he received his bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Climatology. Then he took the rest of his meteorology coursework at Mississippi State. Bruce was rewarded his television broadcasting Seal of Approval from The American Meteorological Society in 1990, AMS Seal #612.
He is an LSU and Saints season ticket holder and an avid Pelicans lover. Outside of work, Bruce enjoys working out, bicycling, landscaping, and just about anything outdoors. He was also part of the Krewe Of Bacchus for 13 years.
