White was born on January 17, 1922, in Oak Park, Illinois. She was the daughter of Horace Logan White and Christine Tess. Her mother was a homemaker, and her father was an executive in a lighting company. She didn’t have any siblings, as she was the only child.
She went to Horace Mann Elementary School. After she joined Beverly Hills High School, she graduated in 1939. She got an interest when it came to writing and wrote a play at Horace Mann School.
